Ideas For The Stag Night

Stag nights are notorious. Tales of being handcuffed to lamp-posts and strippers are enough to terrify any bride but the reality is stag nights can be as individual as the groom himself. They don't even have to be confined to the night-time.

Planning it yourself, and having your fiancee plan your hen night can be great fun and is an option that is becoming very popular nowadays. You could also let your friends organise your last night of freedom, but try and include at least one responsible mate in there so you don't end up on a caving holiday in Croatia. Unless that's your thing of course!

The classic stag night is basically a lads' night out. A stripper can be incorporated in to this but it's not as popular as the cliche would have you believe. Lots of drinking, laughing and a good curry will get your fiancee in the wedding mood but it's wise not to have it the night before the wedding. No groom wants to be hungover on his big day.

Stags might enjoy a themed stag-night, where they go out all dressed as superheroes or Elvis or gangsters. Who doesn't love fancy dress? If you fancy something raucous but still don't fancy a night on the tiles, go for an outdoor adventure day. Assault courses, zip-lines and canoeing will have you and your friends competing and rolling with laughter.

A popular choice for brides-to-be and grooms-to-be alike is wine-tasting. Wine-tasting sessions cost around £20 per head so are affordable and suitable for just about everyone. If you and your friends are feeling quite flash with their cash you could go and visit a casino as a group. Even just a poker night at home will bring out the gambler in all of you. You could also have a little flutter at the dogs or the horses. All boys love to hold a gun and you can live out your action hero fantasies on a paint-balling trip or a day clay pigeon shooting. A beginner's clay pigeon shooting lesson costs about £25 a head and is something a bit different for you and your stags to try out. If your cash is low, why not organise an epic 5-a-side football match at the local park. Get your girls on the sidelines for extra support.

Some girls like to combine their hen night with their partner's stag night. Maybe you could all go out as 2 groups in fancy dress. Grease is a popular choice: you and your fiancee can be Danny and Sandy and your guests can be the T-Birds and Pink Ladies. You could all go out for a meal at separate restaurants then meet up later at a bar or someone's house to continue the festivities together.

Whatever you and your friends decide on, be sure to take a camera so you can keep all the photos of your last night of freedom and compare them to your beautiful bride's hen night pictures.
