Real Wedding - Nichola & James

We both absolutely love cornwall and couldn't think of a better place to say 'I do'.

We started our search for a venue a couple of years ago and looked at a few places, then i found the website for Polhawn Fort. We visited and fell in love with it, so booked it there and then. We were eager for a summer garden themed wedding and we thought the fort could deliver that, and then some! The fort was booked by ourselves for Monday to Friday and we would get married on the Wednesday.

As we got married on a Wednesday, it allowed us to have a little bit of bargaining ability! The Fort sleeps up to 20 people, so we had to decide who to invite to stay. Imagine a table plan, and times it by 1000, that's how difficult it was!

We decided that it would be close family and bridal party, all other guests would have to find local accommodation, which they all did. We live in the Midlands so everyone was travelling from the North.....

We had 50 guests in total, which was a lovely number. Most people arrived on the Monday and we had arranged for Tesco to deliver food. We all had pizza, pasta and salad for tea - washed down with wine and scrumpy cider! divine! My mums hubby then played his guitar and we had a sing song - X Factor beware!

The weather on the Tuesday was awful - I can't even begin to describe how bad it was - cloudy, foggy, wet and cold......awful. The locals were saying don't worry, it will clear tonight and it will be a lovely day tomorrow (wedding day). At about 8pm, we stood on the lawns looking out to sea (we had not seen it before due to the thick fog) and the clouds began to part. the sky was pink and our wedding day would not be wet after all!

Wedding day - we all had breakfast together then me and James went our separate ways until the alter! I drank champagne with the bridesmaids and just tried to relax. I could hear the hustle and bustle of the waiting on staff who were setting the marquee up. Ii could hear the string quartet playing and I knew that my time had come to meet James on the lawn, in the sunshine, to say "I do".

I will never forget walking outside to hear the music being played and seeing James standing in the sunshine with all my friends and family, and the sea in the background, it was so perfect.

The registrars were traditionally Cornish and so funny, they made us both feel very relaxed and we really enjoyed the ceremony.

We then had drinks on the lawn and a big cold buffet which had been prepared by James mum - she did an amazing job. We did not have a wedding cake, but a cream tea which went down well.

Our photographer was a family friend so there was no charge, plus he was there for the whole day and we have some amazing photos to show for it.

We then had a BBQ in the evening with an acoustic guitarist playing - he was amazing and people are still talking about him now.

All in all, we had a fantastic time with our friends and family. Memories to treasure for ever...
